American Driving

     I am going to talk about American driving through my experience. I used to drive in Japan, so I sometimes show Japan as an example. I have to say I would not like you to get upset or confusing, so if you think I am totally wrong, I would like you to give me your opinion. Please do not quit to read until the end.

     Currently, there are 210 million drivers in the US. (How Many People Drive Cars in the United States? By Reference) It shows what people of 64% have driver licenses. It is not a large number that Japan has people, who have driver licenses, of 65%. I had thought the number of the US should have been bigger than Japanese one before I saw the result of the survey because the US is a car society due to a wide land.    

     For me American driving is a little unique such as using the high beam, not yielding to other cars on a passing lane, not using the blinkers, cutting in front of the cars, and continuing to drive as broken. I mind those things and I feel like funny. In Japan, the road rage has been a big problem same to the US. I have felt what Japanese people, who can get angry easily, should come to the US because they have to reconsider their driving due to American driving. How do American people drive? Here are things

1. Using the high beam

Typically, the high beam is used during night as a head light. When cars pass each other, drivers should switch to the low beam because the high beam could be dangerous to drive due to brightness. What could be happened when they do not switch? Car mirrors couldn’t work as normal. The sight could be narrow. This phenomenon is called “Drivers are Being blinded by headlights”. This could occur when a person is in the middle of the road, a person is disappeared by this because a person would receive the light each car. No one wants to get too bright, so people should switch it when cars pass each other. 

2. Not yielding to other cars on a passing lane 

Generally, there are 2-4 lanes which are not the same situation as an aspect of the speed on the freeway. In the US, steering wheels are on the left side, therefore cars are running on the right side of roads. Cars planning to move slower should stay in the proper lane to the right. When I am driving on the freeway, I am on the fastest lane that there is a car in front of me. I want to drive as fast as at the time, but the car doesn’t change the lane to the right lane even though there is enough space to do so. I do not want to pass the car through the right lane, and do not want to stalk, but the car doesn’t appear to change it. I can’t choose to pass the car through the right lane. It does not happen if the car cares about others. It also affects to make bad the flow of traffic.

3. Not using the blinkers 

Some people do not use the blinkers at all when changing the lane and turning the corner. I see it a lot, so I am surprised when some people use them. They also change the lane a lot that is called “traveling the lane”. For sure without blinkers at the time. This is obviously dangerous.

4. Cutting in front of the cars 

People want to cut in front of the cars if it which there are not enough to be there does not matter for them. To be accurate, the space seems like to not enough space to keep driving safe. Normally, cars should keep the space. For me, the distance of each car is so close that I would like to drive to keep the proper distance, but sometimes I cannot do it. Although I feel what this is so close to the car in front of me, some cars cut in front of me. There is the space like just the size of the car.  

5. Continuing to drive as broken 

You can see broken cars in the US. In fact, there are 6 million car accidents every year as an average (This date from DRIVER KNOWLEDGE). This is such a big number. When I drive on the freeway, I see some cars which are left due to broken. This is not rare. You can see anywhere. You can also see broken cars such as not having windows or mirrors, not lighting all lights, and being held to keep the shape of windows by gummed tape. They care about such problem a little not much because they think it is okay to drive if cars are broken. 

     Overall, I mentioned all things connecting each other. Those things could be a clue to happen “Road Rage” except the last one. I do not say what the high beam is bad that I say just you should think about using the high beam all the time. I want to say loudly what to care is good for safe driving not only yourself, but also for other cars. Just care others when you drive. That’s it. If you think, It sounds so easy that I would like you to do it. Some people drive on their way leaving everything. Not to mention, there are dangerous drives every country. However, as I mentioned the US is one of the largest car society countries. This can be important to reconsider about a way to drive. I have to make sure what I know many people drive safe, no offence.
